Welcome to Atlas and Malus web pages..........

There is currently only two web pages in use on this site, for use of passing information of where the boats will be, what crews required, and where to meet.

The site will be updated Daily/Weekly with information on the boats movements, and related information via "Keeping in touch.." page.

If you are interested in operating this pair of 1935 heritage working boats, no experience required (training provided), expect a sense of humour and the ability to make tea is all we ask for, we can teach you everything else including supping a few pints at the end of a days graft occasional !

Malus is being towed to Windmill end, where a tow has been arranged to take her
to Titford Pump House for BNCS Rally Weekend 19th-20th May.

Atlas is having a few remedial plates welded to the hull over the weekend (19-20thMay)

As we need commitment from a few people to support each of the following moves I am releasing this part of the programme now. We will need four to eight volunteers on each moving day plus some people to man the boats whilst at Braunston.

You will notice that we are intending to attend the Braunston gathering on the 23rd / 24th June.

The return trip we are hoping to have sufficient crew staying with the boats to move them every day to
return  to Hawne basin over seven to ten days.

So, if any of you are interested in experiencing the operation of a pair, the itinerary for May & June is below, please let me know when you want to crew the boats at:

Adrian.Smith12@virginmedia.com.

To remind you though, to crew Atlas and Malus you must be a member of
either (or both) the Birmingham Canal Navigations Society or the
Coombeswood Canal Trust. Please bring your membership card along.

  • Joint Ownership

Since 2008 the BCNS and Coombeswood Canal Trust have jointly operated the working pair: Atlas and Malus, which were formerly part of the BW Historical Fleet. Atlas (the motor) and Malus (the butty) are moored at Hawne Basin on the Dudley No.2 canal; part of the BCN.  Both charities are the proud owners of these heritage boats.  Many voluntary hours have been carried out on the boats to improve their condition and their preservation is now secured. Both boats take part in various events during the season and serve to promote the work of both the BCNS and Coombeswood Canal Trust.

  • BCNS Gallery
